Updated to Monterey over the weekend from High Sierra as finally got round to updating my Adobe Creative Suite. Mac has never been the quickest but I had put that down to running the old legacy Adobe software. Hoped that by installing al new software it would speed up a bit, however its made the iMac pretty unusable.. Takes an age to boot and even with no applications open , just simple things like opening a folder or going to system preferences result in at least 10 seconds of spinning. Once it's been on a while it does speed up a bit you then get constant lags when minimising or opening window. Even shutting down takes an age. As for opening larger apps, InDesign takes about 10 mins to load and then is very slow and laggy and its impossible to use.

I've got a newer MacBook Pro with some pretty beefy hardware and suddenly, after this most recent update, Photoshop is slow and laggy as hell, especially with documents that use artboards. I have a Mac Mini (late 2012), 2.5 GHz, Intel Core i5, upgraded to 16gb memory (Kingston). I have upgraded to Mojave and everything is slow. I have cleared the memory as much as possible but its still very slow. I am going back to work as a freelance artworker and want to subscribe to indesign but am not sure about taking the plunge as it may make the mac even slower??I have a mac mini 2012
After Mojave upgrade many apps including Apple ones will get the spinning wheel very often and eventually clear up but really slows things down. Any advice, I have made sure all apps and everything is up-to-date and checked all settings, disk utility, etc.
I've completely removed Microsoft apps and re-installed loads of times. It's usually runs a little quicker after doing this, but over time, starting Microsoft apps becomes progressively slower so I need remove and re-install again.

Another big thing can be fonts. You might be, like me, kind of freelanced your way around the world and eventually you end up with this huge pile of fonts, and you're like, you keep installing them every time you get a new Mac. The trouble with fonts is that it slows down your whole system. So what you might want to do is-- use Mac has Font Book, I have no idea what PC has, but just uninstall the fonts you're not using. Especially if there's some bad fonts if you got like a dodgy cactus shaped letter font, some weird font, and it's got some problems in it, you're machine spends ages when it loads programs trying to figure that out, and sort it out. So go through, just be super clean with your font installs. Any dodgy ones, just get rid of, or uninstall them. Yes, fonts can be a big-- they can slow down your whole entire system.
One non obvious problem is that creating a clone with carbon copy cloner creates a Mac volume that can only be upgraded with software update from preferences. If you run BackBlaze and then boot from a clone with an earlier version of Big Sur Back Blaze gets very unhappy. Probably it would be better to leave Backblaze off the clone and then install it when running the clone and inherit the backup from the one originally used on that machine - as if it were a new computer. Not realizing that cast me a couple hours of time.So BackBlaze users need to think out how they want to manage their backups when booting from a clone.
